Canonical to Integrate AMD ROCm Libraries into Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Repositories
Canonical today announced plans to package and distribute the AMD ROCm software stack directly within the Ubuntu 26.04 LTS repositories. This integration, set for next year's long-term support release, aims to simplify the deployment and use of GPU-accelerated artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing workloads on Ubuntu systems equipped with AMD graphics processors. This move aligns with AMD's stated goal from the second half of 2025 to streamline in-box Linux support for ROCm. As Phoronix reported, "Canonical with next year's Ubuntu 26.04 LTS release will provide official ROCm packages along with other libraries." The official inclusion in Ubuntu's repositories is expected to significantly ease installation and dependency management for developers and researchers utilizing AMD hardware for compute tasks.
