Arch Linux NVIDIA Driver Packages Default to Open Kernel Modules
Arch Linux's main NVIDIA graphics driver packages have transitioned to utilizing the open-source kernel modules by default. This change coincides with the adoption of the stable NVIDIA 590 driver series. Users with NVIDIA Turing series GPUs and newer will now benefit from the open kernel modules as the standard configuration. However, the NVIDIA 590 driver series discontinues support for older GeForce GTX 900 (Maxwell) and GTX 1000 (Pascal) series GPUs. Consequently, Arch Linux users with these specific older graphics cards will need to migrate to NVIDIA legacy driver packages available through the Arch User Repository (AUR) to maintain functionality.
