AMD RadeonSI Driver Adds Low-Latency Video Decode for Mesa 26.1
AMD's RadeonSI Gallium3D driver is set to introduce a new low-latency video decode mode for the upcoming Mesa 26.1 release. Phoronix reported that this feature, which is being prepared for next quarter's Mesa release, aims to reduce decoding latency for video streams on Linux systems utilizing AMD Radeon GPUs. This enhancement, while improving responsiveness, comes with a noted trade-off: an increase in GPU power consumption when the low-latency mode is active. Developers implementing this new decode option will need to consider the balance between reduced latency and the associated energy usage.
