Shotcut 26.1 Defaults GPU Hardware Video Decoding, Except for NVIDIA on Linux
Shotcut 26.1, the latest feature update for the open-source video editor, was released yesterday. This version introduces GPU hardware accelerated video decoding as the default setting for most platforms. "Shotcut 26.1 is finally defaulting to GPU hardware accelerated video decoding by default for all platforms sans NVIDIA GPUs on Linux," Phoronix reported. This change aims to improve performance by offloading video decoding tasks to dedicated hardware, enhancing overall video editing workflow efficiency. However, this default hardware decoding behavior specifically excludes systems with NVIDIA GPUs running on Linux, a notable distinction in the release. The update represents a significant step for the cross-platform video editing solution in leveraging modern GPU capabilities.
