Linux 7.0 Kernel Fixes Nouveau Large Pages for NVK Performance

The forthcoming Linux 7.0 kernel is expected to resolve bugs preventing the Mesa NVK driver from utilizing large page support and compression within the Nouveau kernel driver. This functionality, which was initially introduced during the Linux 6.19 merge window, was intended to provide a performance boost to the open-source NVIDIA driver. Although the Mesa NVK driver was ready to leverage these features, they were temporarily disabled due to stability issues. With the fixes anticipated for the Linux 6.20, or ultimately 7.0 kernel, NVK's ability to use large pages and compression can be restored, potentially improving performance for users of the open-source NVIDIA graphics stack.
