Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Users Receive Linux 6.17 Kernel and Mesa 25.2 Updates
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS users are now receiving updated core components, including the Linux 6.17 kernel and Mesa 25.2 graphics stack. These updated packages are being backported from the development branch of Ubuntu 25.10, "Questing Quokka," and are rolling out ahead of the scheduled Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS point release. This update provides users of the long-term support version with more recent hardware support, performance enhancements, and bug fixes for integrated and discrete GPUs. The inclusion of Linux 6.17 brings newer driver modules, while Mesa 25.2 delivers updated open-source OpenGL and Vulkan drivers for AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA hardware, bypassing the typical slower update cycle for LTS releases.
