Linux Display Drivers To Gain KMS Recovery Mechanism
A Linux kernel engineer at Microsoft, Hamza Mahfooz, is developing a Kernel Mode-Setting (KMS) recovery mechanism for Linux display drivers. Mahfooz, who previously contributed to the AMDGPU Linux display driver, is spearheading this initiative. The purpose of this work is to enable kernel mode-setting drivers to recover in the event of problems, which aims to enhance desktop stability and user experience on Linux systems. This new mechanism could help prevent system freezes or display issues that might otherwise require a system restart. Phoronix reported on this ongoing development effort.
