KDE Plasma 6.6 Released, Addresses 60Hz Animation Cap and Adds OCR Functionality

KDE Plasma 6.6 was released today, February 18, 2026. This version introduces new functionalities, including the ability to extract text from screenshots via Optical Character Recognition (OCR). The update also addresses a notable display issue by fixing a 60Hz animation cap, which improves the perceived fluidity of the desktop for users with high refresh rate monitors. Additional changes in Plasma 6.6 include enhanced user interface controls such as the ability to manage application volumes directly from the taskbar and the option to save custom desktop themes.
