This stable update enables Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and fractional scaling by default, alongside expanding parental controls and integrating support for hardware accelerated remote desktop sessions. Core GNOME applications also received enhancements; Document Viewer gained new ink and text tools, Files features faster thumbnail generation, and Calendar now allows viewing event attendees for public events. GNOME 50 is expected to be adopted as the default desktop environment for upcoming distributions such as Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Fedora Workstation 44.
