AMDXDNA Driver Adds Per-Process Buffer Object Memory Queries for Linux 7.1
New code for the AMD XD/DNA driver was submitted this week as part of a drm-misc-next pull, targeting the upcoming Linux 7.1 merge window. These Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) changes introduce support for querying per-process buffer object (BO) memory usage from user-space. This enhancement provides more granular visibility into how individual processes are utilizing GPU memory on AMD hardware. This capability can be used by developers and system administrators for debugging memory-intensive GPU applications, optimizing resource allocation, and improving overall VRAM management, particularly for complex workloads or local AI inference applications.
