Linux 7.0 Development Kernel Halves PostgreSQL Throughput for AWS Workloads

An Amazon/AWS engineer reported yesterday that the current Linux 7.0 development kernel leads to PostgreSQL database server throughput being "around half that of prior kernel versions." The engineer raised concerns over this significant performance regression for the widely used database system. While the specific culprit for this issue is known within the kernel, a direct revert of the change is currently not anticipated. Instead, discussions suggest that the PostgreSQL software itself may need adaptation to address the observed performance drop. This finding comes as Linux 7.0 development progresses towards its stable release, with the Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Beta, released last week, already incorporating a Linux 7.0-rc build.
