GreenBoost-Proton Debuts for NVIDIA Linux Gaming vRAM Augmentation
GreenBoost, an open-source memory tiering solution for NVIDIA GPUs, has introduced GreenBoost-Proton, an extension aimed at enhancing Linux gaming. The original GreenBoost project, showcased last month, focused on augmenting NVIDIA GPU vRAM with system RAM and NVMe storage primarily for CUDA workloads and handling larger Large Language Models on cards with smaller dedicated memory capacities. Following a "setback due to NVIDIA legal," the project is now continuing in "new form" and has expanded its scope. The newly released GreenBoost-Proton component is specifically designed to leverage this memory augmentation technology to improve performance for Linux gaming on NVIDIA hardware, addressing potential vRAM limitations.
