AMD is integrating a new "power module" into the AMDGPU kernel graphics driver's Display Core (DC) component for Linux. This development, which recently appeared in a set of patches, aims to bring Linux display-related power savings more in line with the behavior observed on Microsoft Windows. According to Phoronix, this change "looks like it will better match Microsoft Windows behavior with the AMD Radeon driver around display-related power savings features." The enhancement is expected to improve power efficiency for display tasks on Linux systems utilizing AMD Radeon graphics hardware, potentially offering users a more consistent power management experience across operating systems.
