Nouveau Driver Achieves HDMI Fixed Rate Link Support for NVIDIA GPUs

The open-source Nouveau graphics driver on Linux has achieved support for HDMI Fixed Rate Link (FRL) with NVIDIA GPUs. This development provides a key feature of the HDMI 2.1 specification to NVIDIA users through the open-source driver stack. Phoronix reported today that this success for Nouveau contrasts with challenges faced by the AMDGPU open-source driver, which has struggled with full HDMI 2.1 support due to the HDMI Forum's blocking of open-source implementations. This marks a significant step for open-source graphics capabilities on NVIDIA hardware, enabling higher bandwidth video transmission.
