PS5 Consoles Run Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Steam Games via Hypervisor Exploit
Security engineer Andy Nguyen has released the ps5-linux project this week, enabling select PlayStation 5 "Phat" consoles running firmware 3.xx and 4.xx to boot Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. The project leverages a patched hypervisor vulnerability to grant Linux direct access to the console's hardware. This development allows users to transform their PS5 into, as Nguyen described, a "fully functional Linux PC gaming device." The project has been demonstrated running Steam games such as GTA V Enhanced at 60 frames per second at 1440p.
