AMD Posts HDMI 2.1 FRL Patches for AMDGPU Linux Driver
AMD today posted official patches to the Linux kernel mailing list, introducing HDMI Fixed Rate Link (FRL) support for its open-source AMDGPU kernel graphics driver. These patches implement a crucial part of the HDMI 2.1 specification, designed to enable higher bandwidth connectivity between AMD GPUs and displays. This increased bandwidth capacity allows for support of higher resolutions and refresh rates, enhancing the overall display output capabilities for AMD hardware on Linux. While a significant step, Phoronix notes this contribution is "not complete HDMI 2.1 support" yet, but represents forward progress in modernizing display standards within the AMDGPU driver.
