KDE Receives €1.28M Sovereign Tech Fund Grant for Plasma and Linux Development
KDE announced today it has received a €1.28 million ($1.51 million) grant from the Sovereign Tech Fund (STF), a German government-backed initiative. The funding is earmarked for improving the Plasma desktop environment, KDE Linux components, and their associated communication frameworks. This grant will be disbursed to KDE across 2026 and 2027. The Sovereign Tech Fund describes its work as "strategic investments in the digital infrastructure of our economy and society." Like all grants provided by the STF, these funds are allocated for a specific set of pre-approved projects, ensuring the money targets defined development areas within the KDE ecosystem.
