AMDGPU HDMI 2.1 FRL Support to Be Initially Disabled by Default
Recent patches for the open-source AMDGPU kernel graphics driver introduce HDMI 2.1 Fixed Rate Link (FRL) and Display Stream Compression (DSC) support. This update advances the driver towards full HDMI 2.1 capabilities for AMD Radeon GPUs on Linux. The latest iteration of these HDMI 2.1 FRL and DSC patches was released today. While this functionality is a significant step, it will be initially disabled by default. This development is part of ongoing efforts to "provid[e] full HDMI 2.1 support for this open-source AMD Radeon driver," according to Phoronix.
