Ubuntu 26.10 to Add On-Device AI Voice Input to All Text Fields
Canonical's VP of Engineering Jon Seager announced at the Ubuntu Summit that Ubuntu 26.10 will introduce AI-powered voice input capabilities for all text fields. Users will be able to "press a button and talk into any field that you could previously type in." This feature will utilize a small, on-device AI language parsing model, such as Whisper, for speech processing. This integration is part of a wider effort this year to embed AI features throughout Ubuntu, aligning with founder Mark Shuttleworth's vision to establish Ubuntu as the "OS for agentic AI."
