Collabora Develops OpenXR Experience for Ocean Soundscape Advocacy
In an April 22 blog post, Collabora detailed its collaboration with environmental nonprofit SOMAR to develop an open source extended reality (XR) experience. This application immerses users in an underwater soundscape using real acoustic recordings, aiming to demonstrate the impact of human-made noise pollution on marine life. The experience is built on the OpenXR standard, enabling it to run on a range of hardware from standalone headsets to Google Cardboard-compatible phone setups, thus maximizing accessibility for broader audiences. SOMAR has deployed the application publicly, utilizing it as an advocacy tool for students and the general public.
