Linux Mint 23 Ships with Full Wayland Support, Keeps X11 Option

Linux Mint announced today that its upcoming Linux Mint 23 release will offer full Wayland support, moving it beyond an experimental option. The development team stated that "both X11 and Wayland will be fully" supported. This decision distinguishes Linux Mint from some other distributions, such as Ubuntu 25.10, which have removed Xorg support from their default installations. Project lead Clement Lefebvre noted, "We worked really hard on Wayland and we got to the point where it feels solid and the experience is almost on par with X11." This approach provides users the choice between the traditional X11 display server and the modern Wayland protocol, aiming for a robust experience with both.
