Phoronix recently published a review benchmarking NVIDIA Linux gaming performance across X11 and Wayland display server sessions within KDE Plasma 6.7.2. The tests were conducted using the Arch Linux-based CachyOS. This evaluation assesses the performance differences between the two display protocols in gaming environments with NVIDIA hardware. The benchmarks provide data as KDE Plasma 6.7 represents the final version with X11 support before the upcoming Plasma 6.8 release transitions to a Wayland-only architecture. The analysis aims to inform developers and users about the current state of NVIDIA gaming on Wayland compared to the established X11 environment as the desktop environment evolves.
