Linux 7.3 Improves GPU Reset Recovery for AMD GFX7 Kaveri, Hawaii
AMDGPU developers submitted a secondary set of feature improvements to DRM-Next last week, targeting the upcoming Linux 7.3 kernel merge window. This work includes enhanced GPU reset recovery mechanisms specifically for older AMD GFX7 graphics processors, such as the Kaveri and Hawaii series. These improvements focus on "soft reset" capabilities, which aim to improve system stability and user experience when a GPU encounters issues. This follows an earlier AMDGPU feature pull request that introduced DRM format modifiers for old AMD GPUs and other enhancements. The inclusion in DRM-Next prepares these changes for integration into Linux 7.3.
