Radeon RADV Ray-Tracing Performance Sees Significant Gains for RDNA 4 GPUs in 2025
Phoronix benchmarking conducted for year-end comparisons indicates substantial performance improvements for Radeon RADV Vulkan ray-tracing on RDNA 4 GPUs throughout 2025. These tests specifically focused on the Radeon RX 9000 series, which initially debuted near the beginning of the year. The review highlights that "The Vulkan ray-tracing performance in particular was standing out this year as having evolved quite nicely." In contrast, conventional OpenGL and Vulkan performance for these GPUs has remained largely stable since their initial launch, which already offered strong support. These optimizations enhance the ray-tracing capabilities available to AMD RDNA 4 users running Linux.
