MaterialX Adds Slang Shader Generation for Open-Standard Interoperability

The MaterialX project, an Academy Software Foundation (ASWF) initiative, has integrated a dedicated Slang shader generator. The announcement was made today by The Khronos Group's Slang team. This collaboration enables MaterialX to leverage Slang's capabilities for generating complex, hardware-agnostic look-development data. The integration positions Slang as a key component for open-standard material interoperability. This development also facilitates the incorporation of machine learning and inverse rendering workflows into the MaterialX and OpenUSD ecosystems, utilizing Slang's differentiable rendering features. The Khronos Group stated this integration "validates our 'write once, run anywhere' philosophy."
