FFmpeg 8.1 Readies With Vulkan Enhancements, JPEG-XS Integration
FFmpeg developers are preparing for the imminent release of version 8.1 of the multimedia framework. Phoronix reported today that the upcoming version will include "some great new features and other improvements." Key among these additions are various Vulkan improvements, which typically enhance hardware accelerated video processing or rendering within the framework. Additionally, FFmpeg 8.1 will introduce support for the JPEG-XS codec. This inclusion expands FFmpeg's capabilities for handling high-performance, low-latency video and image compression, especially relevant for professional broadcast and live production workflows. The release is expected to include a range of other general improvements.
