Mesa 26.0 Released with RADV Raytracing Gains, KosmicKrisp Vulkan-to-Metal Layer
Mesa 26.0, the latest iteration of the open-source graphics stack, was released today, March 17, 2026. This major update delivers new features and improvements across its suite of integrated graphics drivers. As stated by the Mesa development team, "Highlights of Mesa 26.0 include Metal layered driver that enables Vulkan applications to run on macOS by translating Vulkan calls to Apple's Metal API.">KosmicKrisp, a new Vulkan to Metal layered driver for macOS, significant raytracing performance improvements to the RADV Vulkan driver for AMD GPUs, and other Vulkan improvements." This release specifically benefits AMD GPU users with enhanced raytracing capabilities through the RADV driver, and expands Vulkan application reach on macOS via the new KosmicKrisp layered driver.
