PanVK Overhauls Framebuffer Abstraction for Mali GPUs, Enhances Vulkan Tiled Rendering

Collabora announced yesterday that PanVK, the open-source Vulkan driver for Arm Mali GPUs, has received a significant update to its framebuffer abstraction. This re-architecture removes historical OpenGL-specific constraints from the driver's framebuffer handling, aligning it more closely with Vulkan's explicit API design. The change is designed to unlock more flexible tiled rendering features on Mali GPUs. By rethinking how framebuffers are managed, PanVK can better leverage the unique tile-based rendering capabilities of Arm Mali hardware, which can lead to improved performance and efficiency for Vulkan applications.
