Sway 1.12 Adds Window Capture, HDR10 via Vulkan, NVIDIA Proprietary Driver Compatibility

Sway 1.12 was released today, May 26, 2026, building on wlroots 0.20.0. This release introduces several new features, including the ability to capture individual windows and support for HDR10 when utilizing the Vulkan renderer. It also integrates support for new Wayland protocols such as color-management-v1, color-representation-v1, and xdg-toplevel-tag-v1. Users can now specify --device-primaries in output color_profile to use advertised EDID color primaries. A significant change in Sway 1.12 is the removal of startup refusal on unsupported GPUs, specifically addressing previous issues with NVIDIA proprietary drivers. This change aims to improve compatibility and allow Sway to run in more varied hardware configurations. The release also updates the default configuration with playerctl key bindings and adds support for keypad slide switches. Overall, Sway 1.12 incorporates 138 changes from 50 contributors.
