Canonical Promotes ARM64 Steam Snap to Stable Channel
Canonical yesterday announced the promotion of its Steam Snap for ARM64 to the stable channel. First announced in January, this snap enables Steam gaming on ARM64 Linux hardware, having been tested on devices including the NVIDIA DGX Spark, Radxa Orion O6, and Lenovo ThinkPad X13s. Canonical reported "solid performance" across many popular games during its testing phase. The stable snap achieves compatibility by utilizing the FEX emulator to run existing Intel/AMD Steam binaries on ARM64 systems. Although Valve recently began quietly publishing native ARM Linux builds, these are not prominently linked on their main website, positioning Canonical's snap as a key solution for broader ARM64 Steam compatibility.
