Khronos Group Surveys Shader Ecosystem for Future Standardization Direction
The Khronos Group has launched a "Shader Ecosystem Survey" to gather developer input on shader languages, tools, and prevalent pain points. The survey targets individuals writing shading code in any language, including Slang, HLSL, GLSL, and WGSL. Its objective is to identify where standardization efforts are most needed within the broader shader ecosystem, covering topics from debugging and profiling challenges to the future of shader standards. The anonymous survey, which takes only a few minutes to complete, has a submission deadline of July 10, 2026. According to Khronos, developer input "helps shape where Khronos focuses next." The results from this survey are slated for presentation at the SIGGRAPH Real-Time Shading Birds-of-a-Feather session later this year.
