Firefox 153 to Offer Vulkan Video Decoding for Nvidia GPUs on Linux

Firefox is set to introduce hardware-accelerated Vulkan video decoding for Nvidia GPU users on Linux. This new functionality will be included in Firefox 153, which is scheduled for release on July 21. The integration aims to simplify hardware video acceleration for Nvidia users by removing the need to manually configure the nvidia-vaapi-driver package. While available in Firefox 153, the feature will not be enabled by default. Users will initially need to activate it by toggling specific preferences within about:config. Mozilla cautions that "hiccups and edge cases" may occur, especially on devices utilizing hybrid graphics configurations.
