The Khronos Vulkan Working Group today released two significant updates to the API and its ecosystem: the Vulkan Roadmap 2026 Milestone and an entirely new Descriptor system, which includes a new Descriptor Heap Extension. These additions signify ongoing development for the Vulkan API. Initial support for these new features is expected to be available in the next Vulkan SDK release, which is currently planned for Q1 2026. The forthcoming Vulkanised 2026 conference, scheduled for February 9-11 in San Diego, will feature discussions on these new features and other developments.
