D7VK 1.7 Released, Enhances Direct3D 3-7 API Translation for Vulkan
The open-source D7VK project released version 1.7 today, April 12, 2026, bringing further improvements for running legacy Microsoft Direct3D APIs on top of Vulkan. D7VK, which started as a fork of DXVK, initially aimed to support Direct3D 7 but has since expanded its compatibility to include Direct3D 6, 5, and 3. According to Phoronix, D7VK 1.7 "in continuing to better support those vintage versions of Microsoft's Direct3D API." This release allows older Windows titles and applications that rely on these vintage Direct3D versions to run more effectively on Linux systems by translating their graphics calls to the modern Vulkan API.
