Igalia Details Vulkan Optimizations for Valve's Steam Devices, Bolstering Proton Compatibility

Igalia announced last month their extensive work optimizing Vulkan for Valve, aimed at powering upcoming Steam devices. The graphics team implemented numerous Vulkan extensions and reviewed others to ensure accurate rendering for Direct3D 11, Direct3D 12, and OpenGL games through compatibility layers like DXVK, vkd3d-proton, and Zink. Engineer Danylo Piliaiev stated, "We achieved higher correctness than the proprietary driver and, in many cases, Mesa3D Turnip is faster as well." This collaboration focused on investigating and resolving rendering issues, significantly enhancing game compatibility and performance on Linux. The optimizations provide a more robust and performant graphics stack for Valve's hardware initiatives.
