DXVK 3.0.1 Released: Disables Secondary Command Buffers, Fixes D3D9 Issues
DXVK v3.0.1 has recently been released, focusing on stability improvements and bug fixes for DirectX 9 and DirectX 11 games running on Linux via Wine or Proton. The most notable change is the disabling of secondary command buffer usage on all desktop GPUs. This decision was made because it "has been a constant source of hard-to-debug rendering issues and GPU hangs," with its main benefits primarily seen on tiling GPUs. While this change "may slightly impact performance in a small number of games," the primary goal is increased reliability. The update also addresses a rendering regression that affected numerous D3D9 games, specifically naming titles such as Black Mesa, Gothic 3, and GTA IV. Other fixes include resolving a crash when games unload D3D libraries while the D3D device is active, and an issue causing stuttering on 32-bit Nvidia drivers when descriptor heaps were enabled. GPU synchronization around stream output has also been improved, which may benefit older Unity Engine games utilizing D3D11.
